How to use it
- Type or paste a short word or line. Short text falls apart more dramatically.
- The Cursed style is already selected. Drag Intensity toward 100 for maximum damage, or back toward 50 to keep it readable.
- Untick Above or Below if the stacks collide with other lines.
- Press Shuffle until you like the arrangement, then check the character count.
- Press Copy text and paste it into your name, caption or message.
Cursed text is Zalgo with the brakes off
This page opens at intensity 80 with all three directions on. That is well past the classic Zalgo setting, and it is where the text stops being a styled word and starts being a smear. The sample, "cursed text", has 11 characters including the space. At the default shuffle it comes out at 164 characters, 153 of them combining marks. That is about 15 characters for every one you typed.
Use this version when the point is the damage. A meme caption that looks like it came out of a broken printer. A reaction message that fills the whole chat bubble. A username you want people to notice from across the server list. If you want the text to stay readable, the weird text generator is the better tool.
How much damage each step adds
The generator draws a random number of marks for each letter in each direction. At intensity 100 that number runs from 4 to 14 above and 4 to 14 below, with 1 to 3 marks cutting through the letter. Here is the word "night" at the settings people reach for most often, all directions on, default shuffle:
| Intensity | Marks per direction | "night" becomes | Marks added |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55 (classic Zalgo) | 2 to 8 | 60 characters | 55 |
| 65 | 3 to 9 | 62 characters | 57 |
| 80 (this page) | 3 to 11 | 76 characters | 71 |
| 100 (maximum) | 4 to 14 | 104 characters | 100 |
Going from 55 to 100 makes the result about 1.7 times as long. The bigger change is height: the tallest stacks reach into neighboring lines, and that is what makes the text unreadable. At maximum, the five letters average 20 marks each.
The 30 mark rule you should know about
Unicode defines a "Stream-Safe Text Format" in its normalization annex. It says a string should not contain runs of more than 30 non-starters, meaning combining marks, after normalization. The number was picked, in the annex's own words, to be well beyond anything real languages or technical writing need. A letter at maximum intensity with all directions on can reach 31 marks, so the top setting can cross that line on a lucky roll.
What does that mean for you in practice? Software that follows the guideline may cut a long stack, insert a joiner character, or reject the text. The result can look different from what you copied. If you see the stacks looking shorter after pasting, that is a likely reason. Dropping to intensity 80 keeps every letter under 26 marks (11 above, 11 below, 3 through the middle), safely inside the limit.
What people actually use it for
Display names and tags
A fully cursed name is a bold choice, and it comes with trade-offs. Names are usually plain text fields with a length limit counted in characters, not in letters. A seven letter name at this setting can come close to 100 characters. Watch the counter under the result. If it is over the field limit, lower the intensity or shorten the word. Cursed text also makes you hard to find, because people cannot type your name into search.
Memes and reaction posts
The cursed look works best on short words that carry the joke. A single line like "it is over" or "he is awake" does more than a paragraph. Pair the text with a normal sentence so the reader gets the point even if the stacks render badly.
Game and server flavor
Tabletop and horror campaign groups use it for the voice of the thing in the walls. One cursed line per scene is plenty.
When to turn it down
| Situation | Suggested setting |
|---|---|
| One word as the punchline | 80 to 100, all directions |
| Name or bio that must stay readable | 20 to 35, or try weird text |
| Multi line post | 45 to 65, drop Above so lines do not collide |
| Dripping horror look | Use creepy text, which is below and through only |
| Text others must read or copy | Do not use it |
Heavy text is also more work to draw, since an app has to lay out hundreds of marks per line. Some apps strip or limit combining marks as well, so a post that looks wrecked here may arrive clean. Test with a short word first.
Cleaning it up later
Cursed text is easy to undo. Paste it into the Zalgo text remover and the stacks are stripped, leaving your original letters. For a broader look at all the styles, see the glitch text generator.

Frequently asked questions
What is cursed text?
Cursed text is another name for Zalgo or glitch text. It is normal text with many Unicode combining marks stacked on each letter, so the writing looks like it is melting or falling apart.
How do I make cursed text for Discord?
Type your name here, copy the result and paste it where you would type the name. Names have length limits counted in characters, and heavy cursed text uses a lot of them, so check the counter and lower the intensity if the field refuses it.
Why does my cursed text look shorter after I paste it?
Some apps strip or limit combining marks. Unicode also recommends keeping runs of marks to 30 or fewer, and software that follows that guideline may trim very long stacks. Try an intensity of 80 or lower.
Does cursed text work on Instagram or Roblox?
It depends on the app, and apps can change their filters at any time. If the marks vanish or the text is rejected, lower the intensity or use fewer directions. Test a short word before you commit to a long caption.
Can I make the cursed text readable?
Yes. Lower the Intensity to around 30 to 50, or untick Above. The weird text generator on this site is tuned for text that stays readable.
How do I turn cursed text back into normal text?
Paste it into the Zalgo text remover. It strips the stacked marks and gives you the plain letters again.
Is cursed text a virus or an image?
Neither. It is plain Unicode text made of letters plus combining characters. That is why it can be copied and pasted.
